Tea for Three: Lady Bird, Pat, & Betty
SUNDAY FEBRUARY 1
12:00pm-2:00pm
This production will feature three actresses, each portraying one First Lady in her own extended monologue (approximately 11 pages each).
Lady Bird Johnson:
Warm, gracious, and deeply rooted in her Texas identity. Lady Bird reflects on her years alongside LBJ with a blend of Southern charm and quiet strength. She’s a natural storyteller, balancing pride in her husband’s legacy with honest acknowledgment of the era’s turbulence. The ideal actress can convey groundedness, intelligence, and gentle wit.
Pat Nixon:
Poised and dignified, Pat carries herself with a reserve that masks deep emotion. Often underestimated and misunderstood, she reveals a woman of remarkable resilience who endured public scrutiny while maintaining her composure. The ideal actress can bring subtlety and depth, showing the private woman behind the public mask; someone who feels deeply but guards herself carefully.
Betty Ford:
Candid, warm, and refreshingly direct. Betty approaches her story with humor and unflinching honesty, including her struggles with addiction and her advocacy for causes considered controversial at the time. The ideal actress can embody openness, vulnerability, and a lively spirit; someone unafraid to speak her truth.
Audition Requirements
Please prepare a 60-second contemporary monologue. If you do not have a monologue prepared, sides from the script will be available to read.
Rehearsal Information
Rehearsals begin March 1, 2026. Because the show consists of three separate one-woman scenes, our rehearsal schedule will be flexible and tailored to cast availability. We can be creative and accommodating with the process. Casting is happening early so that each actress has a full month with her script before rehearsals begin, allowing time to begin memorization if desired.
